Birth Doula

Hannah will be on maternity leave September 2019-March 2020

Hey, I'm Hannah Atterberry. I am a birth doula, and a member of Dona International. I have three amazing stepsons, and I'm married to the man of my dreams.  I became a doula after I attended my best friend's birth. As soon as the baby started crowning the focus on the mother was lost. That spoke so loudly to me that I knew we needed more people mothering the mother. Someone to focus on the mother, so she continues to feel secure through the birthing process. Since then, I've become committed to assisting women through their birth journeys. My goal as your doula is to provide you with in depth evidence based education to which you feel empowered to make the best decisions for you, and your family. This way, no matter if you deviate from your original plan, you can look back on your birth, and smile.  I believe in your ability to birth your baby, the way YOU want to. It's your birth; own it!

Birth Doula Services:

  • All potential clients receive a free consultation either in person, or over the phone.

  • 2 two-hour prenatal appointments. The first appointment is focused on getting to know you and your birth team, and allows us to talk about your preferences regarding birth. In this visit we discuss the common medical interventions, procedures, medications, holistic approaches, and address any questions you may have. We also cover light stretches and exercises you can use throughout your pregnancy to encourage proper birth position, and a speedier more comfortable labor. The second prenatal is focusing on what to expect during labor. We talk about the stages of birth, relaxation techniques, labor positioning, and various roles of the people on your birth team. I view this appointment as more of a labor rehearsal.

  • A birth preference plan

  • Continuous phone/email support during your pregnancy. You may have questions, need referrals, or you just need to process what's happening with your body. I'm here to guide you through this process.

  • I provide continuous labor support. I am available via phone during early labor. I will meet you at an agreed upon time either your home, or hospital, typically once active labor is established. After delivery, I stay with mom for 1-2 hours to help settle in with new baby. I can assist with breastfeeding, answer any questions, and help tidy belongings for transport to recovery.

  • A birth time line to help you remember some special details of your birth.

  • 1 postpartum visit within the first year of birth. This visit is a special time in which I can help you process your birth, you can ask questions, we can work on breastfeeding, and we discuss the notes that were taken.

Additional services:

  • Prenatal Support only: includes four hours of in person education and support, a birth preference plan, and continuous phone/email support.

  • Doctor's visits: Sometimes we miss information, or need the extra support. I can fill in the gaps when needed.

  • Additional in person support: we can cover any pregnancy, birth, or postpartum topics in the comfort of your home.
