My Backup Doula & Resources for Curious Minds

No one has paid me to be on this list. I made this list based on the connections I’ve made over the years in our community. I am also not responsible for these other practitioners, the work they do, if they take insurance, costs, etc.

Not every provider is going to be the right provider for you. If you are a client and need other resources then please let me know so we can discuss your specific wants and needs. Metro Atlanta is a big city with tons of resources. These are just a few.

Meet My Backups

These are also the doulas I recommend if I am not the right doula for you or am unavailable for your due date. I am a firm believer that not every doula is gonna be the right doula for you. I want you to have the best birth experience possible with the support that you desire.

Stephanie

Stephanie is a Certified Birth Doula, Lactation Educator Counselor, and BLS/CPR instructor. She provides a full range of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum services to women and their families living in both Metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia.

I’ve worked with Stephanie for years. She’s consistent and dependable, loyal and steadfast. I admire her work which is why she’s my backup doula. I don’t trust my clients care to just anyone.

Charmaine

Charmaine is a British Trained Midwife, Birth and Postpartum Doula. She, like myself, spends a lot of time educating her clients. She caters her care to your needs while being honest and straight-forward. It’s why she’s one of my backups.

I don’t know of another doula in Atlanta with the level of experience as a doula that Charmaine has. She’s attended hundreds of births at this point and her experiences outside the U.S. give her a unique perspective on care.

Local and Informational Resources

Chiropractic Care

Controversial I know! Chiropractic care is like any specialty: it comes in many forms, there are several types of techniques that can be utilized, not all practitioners are the same, not all offices provide the same services, and so on. Chiropractic care is something that can be utilized at all phases of life because the human body changes drastically while it’s here on earth. Webster Certified Chiropractors are practitioners who have additional education on pregnancy, postpartum, and pediatrics. For clients who are expecting, I usually recommend finding a practitioner who has that additional training.

Local Chiropractors

There are tons of chiropractors in and around Atlanta. These are just a few amazing practitioners. You can check out ICPA to find an even bigger list.

Newborn Care

Learning to care for another human is daunting. That first night alone with your baby can be anxiety provoking to say the least. Do yourself a solid and learn about the different phases and stages of human development but keep in mind that every child is different. No matter how many books you read, podcasts you listen to, or videos you watch, some things can’t be learned until you experience it.

  • KellyMom is a site dedicated to parenting and chest/breastfeeding.

  • Essential Newborn Care for First Time Parents those first few weeks of being a new parent can be so overwhelming. Here is an article put together by pediatricians that has the basics you need to know to care for babies.

  • La Leche League is another resource to learn about all things chest/breastfeeding.

Informational Resources

You cannot learn things in labor. The time to educate yourself is now. Below are some amazing informational resources. It’ll be a lot to absorb. Make time for yourself to dive into these sites and the in-depth articles they provide. If you are a client and need help researching a specific topic, please reach out.

Local Informational Resources

Below are local-based resources for those wanting to know more about their rights, laws in GA, and how to get involved.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

You don’t have to be pregnant, have had a baby, or any recent surgery to benefit from meeting with a pelvic floor therapist to learn about your body and how it works. The purpose of this form of care is to support your innards, stabilize your meat suit, help you get your “groove back,” and seal up that leaky basement. Those are all medical terms (sarcasm — that was sarcasm).

When picking your pelvic floor therapist, please keep in mind that your comfort and feelings of safety & security are crucial for such sensitive work. Please pick your practitioner based on your wants and needs. There are a few providers in the area and here are some.

Books

There are a wealth of books about pregnancy, birth, and parenting. I’m only gonna recommend a few of my personal favorites.

  • Real Food for Fertility, Real Food for Pregnancy, and Real Food for Gestational Diabetes by Lily Nichols

  • The Birth Partner by Penny Simkin

  • The No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantly
